As part of the Kentucky Derby Festival each year there is a Balloon Glow the night before one of the hot-air balloon races. Generally this is a pretty cool event with up to 50 balloons lighting up on the dark fields of the Kentucky State Fairgrounds. Last night, however, we got to see a whopping 6 balloons…maybe 8. Unfortunately it was way too windy to allow the balloons to glow in their full glory. Under normal weather conditions the crowd is allowed to wander around the balloons up close, talk to the crew and get tons of great photos. Due to the balloons being tethered and the flame threat from high winds they crowd was not allowed into the field with the balloons. So instead, I will point you to my photos from the 2006 Balloon Glow and you can pretend that it’s current. 😉
